In honor of what would have been Nicks 32nd Birthday this , the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation and Big Nick’s Riders were able to make a very special $2,000 donation to Cape Cod Healthcare during the weekend blood drive. Our donation will provide the funds to purchase the Orsense NBM-200 non-invasive hemoglobin analyzer that can be used to determine if a blood donor is eligible for a whole blood or plasma donation. The NBM-200 provides a pain-free blood analysis, and through its accuracy, reproducibility and ease-of-use, enhances the comfort and safety of the donor and minimizes the risk of infection to the donor or operator. With this donation, Cape Cod Hospital will be the first in Massachusetts to have this special device!

How enormously grateful we were to receive a grant from the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation today! Steven G. Xiarhos, father of Nicholas, visited the pantry to present the $500 grant in remembrance of what would have been Nicholas' 32nd birthday after he died in combat in Afghanistan. Pictured here are Steven, second from right, and Gigi Ridgley, executive director, center. Also pictured is Betsy Hickey, far right, of the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, a longtime supporter of the pantry and a personal friend of the Xiarhos family. At far left is our board president, Angela Clow, and Ken Mooney, our veterans' liaison. Steven took a guided tour of the pantry, then posed with all the pantry volunteers, including our Sandwich Selectman, Charlie Holden. Thank you, Steven and the Xiarhos family, as well as the Cape Cod Foundation. We are grateful as always to all the veterans who have served our country.
